The Florida Alliance of Home Care Services are pleased to be working with the Agency for Health Care Administration. Recently, FAHCS Board Members were able to present to Bureau of Medicaid Services the importance of Waiver Programs and proper fee schedules. Rudy Hernandez, Jack Marques and I all spoke on behalf of Medical Equipment Providers as well as patient quality Standards. I am pleased to be the Vice-President of our State Association as we move forward to change and improve the industry as well as the lives of our patients.

Healthy Heart Steps Training - Tampa

Some of the newest members of our Matrix Medical Sales Team completed their training on the Healthy Heart Steps Program. This program targets those patients who need additional support and education. Patients receive clinical education regarding CHF, Heart Disease and preventative measures. Matrix team teaches patients how to read a label, how to monitor sodium intake, proper diet, including recipes provided by the American Heart Association and the importance of weight monitoring Patient are provided with scales if we find they do not have or are unable to afford. Our programs are complimentary to helping patients improve their quality of life and live longer is our goal.

It was a privilege to be an honored guest during the American Heart Association Fundraiser. Stacey Dowdle (Vice President Palm Beach Chapter), Robin Fleming (LaCasa Hermosa) and I, have partnered our love and passion for the GO RED Initiative. Stacey shared with the ladies what each person can do to spread the message of "Learn and Live"! Michael Galanas, Florida International Director, spoke on behalf of the state pageant and the initiative to champion the GO RED campaign at this years pageant.
LaCasa Hermosa will be auctioning off the beautiful red ball gown as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. The gown was unveiled and will be posted on the LaCasa Ebay site. Please bid on this dress and the dresses that will be donated by the Florida International contestants and partner to win the battle that kills more women annually over the age of 25 than any other disease. Thank you!!

The GO RED initiative began in 1994 and has been a mechanism in which the American Heart Association gets the word out to women throughout the Nation. I was honored to share my personal story of Heart Disease and the heriditary factors that women sometimes overlook. One lady every 60 seconds dies of this disease and sharing our stories help others become more aware of taking preventative measures and taking control of their health.

There were many special guest including Lauren Malis, Without a Hitch Company. She not only has her own line of clothing but orchestrates Miami's annual fashion week.

A Mother's Day Surprise - The Terrace Hotel

The Terrace hotel and the Rollyson girls planned a special Surprise for me this Mother's Day. They only told me the time and what to wear and kept it a secret as we drove to the historical downtown area of Lakeland Florida. We had a warm greeting at the beautiful Terrace Grille and a special room was set aside for our family. The food was incredible and the family fellowship even better.

I am so proud to have such a beautiful daugher and an incredible daughter-in-law. Both have such beautiful spirits and a true love and passion to make others feel special. Ken and I have been blessed with a caring family.

Brides Against Breast Cancer - FL US Pageant

Janet and I helped sell programs at the Florida US Pageant last weekend. As returning Florida US queens (2007 and 2004)we volunteer and help raise funds via selling programs or assisting with the silent auction. The pageant raised $2,500 that evening. Here we are with Mick (sponsor)...Mick Chicks.

The Plant City Deuces attended our annual Seaside Event. Eleven of us traveled to Seaside, Florida and enjoyed an amazing Tennis Weekend. Each of these women are volunteers, members of charity boards, and find ways in the community to make a difference. We had a great time and look forward to next years trip.

The Rainbow Ball is the annual fundraiser held during Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month on Saturday, April 18th, 2009. The event benefits the many programs of the Child Abuse Council. On Valentines Day Leanne received a special Princess Party. She invited 10 of her friends to celebrate and be pampered.

Leanne has a terminal condition and has spent most of the last year in the hospital. She was full of smiles and seemed to have a great time. I continue to pray for Leanne daily and ask that if you read this post, you will do the same.

Go Red For Women Day - Press Conference

My mother and I were invited to the Press Conference in the Tampa Bay area. My mother has survived two heart attacks and I encouraged her to share her story with the press. It was very alarming when I first realized heart disease ran in my family. After going to the Dr. myself, I found I have a heart condition and a murmur which causes chest pains. I have learned through my mothers actions to take pain seriously and never contribute it to stress. I get checked bi-yearly and she and I keep each other motivated to eat right, exercise and keep those physician appointments.

This past year I opened a side business called Designing Images by Dee. These are among the first girls to go through my "Dare 2 Dream" program and are prepared to enter an interview process with judges. These girls all come from different walks of life and have given of themselves to make a difference in their communities and become better women for tomorrow. I am so happy to have helped each one of then achieve their dreams.

After having been diagnosed with a heart condition and having a family history of heart disease, I get my echo and stress test to continue to monitor the function of my heart. Education is the key to heart disease and knowing what my risk factors are has kept me healthy and on track to preventing heart failure.

Matrix Medical and Metropolitan Ministries

Matrix Medical associates collected van loads of toys during their recent fundraiser. These toys were delivered to Metropolitan Ministries and were distributed to the homeless children in the Tampa Bay area. The employees also donated their time during the Christmas Eve rush to insure that all families received hot meals and toys for all children who were serviced that day. I am proud to be apart of great associates.

A TIME FOR GIVING

This year I was so happy to have my entire family volunteer on December 22, 2008 at Metropolitian Ministries. We loaded buggy's full of toys and food. We were able to be apart of helping service over 10,000 homeless families.

At Metropolitian Ministries the families are able to shop for the children's needs and are free to select items appropriate for the age of their children. This toy room gave great hope to many families this year who are just like you and I, and have found themselves homeless for the very first time in their lives.

The food was coming in at such a rate, we were barely able to keep up. The cold food was sent to the coolers and the other items were put in a holding area and a team was sorting and putting together care packages throughout the entire evening and all the way till Christmas Day.

All Childrens Hospital - Tampa

The Queens for a Day event was held at the All Children's Hospital and we had approx. 20 children take part and be pampered. I always feel so great inside when the little girls look at themselves in the mirrors and smile and get their sash and tiaras. I was among a sea of beautiful women and reigning queens.

Plant City has a lighting of the Christmas Tree Event each year and we always have a bulb lite in memory of Ken's Mother (Jackie) who passed away from breast cancer a few years go.

I was privileged to be apart of the Queens for a Day event held at the children's hospital. I was able to paint nails, do crafts and fix hair and makeup for little girls who were too sick to come downstairs to the event. It was a beautiful and heart-warming day.
